NRG Campground FAQs

Do You Take Reservations? Are they required?

Yes! Reservations are required in advance. Same-day reservations must be made no later than 11 a.m. on the date of your arrival. You can make a reservation online or by visiting during office hours.

How much does it cost to stay at the NRG Campground?

Private sites are $24 for members and $32 for non-members, plus tax. Communal camping is $10 per person for members and $14 per person for non-members, plus tax. Vehicle sites are $16 for members and $20 for non-members, plus tax.

What’s the vehicle situation?

Each campsite can accommodate two standard-sized vehicles. All vehicles must be registered/checked-in and additional vehicles must park in the overflow lot at the front entrance. We do not accommodate vehicles over 20’, trailers, or RVs.

Why do you restrict vehicle sizes?

With the growth of large vehicle camping (vans, campers, etc.), we have been struggling to keep up with the impact that large vehicles have on our infrastructure and on the forest floor. There are other campgrounds in the area that can accommodate large vehicles and we ask that you explore other options for large vans, campers, and RVs.

How can I cancel my reservation?

Please see our cancellation policy on your confirmation email, then email the campground at nrg@americanalpineclub.org stating that you want to cancel your reservation. Be sure to include the name on your reservation and reservation dates.

I have more than four people in my party, can we still share a private tent site?

Unfortunately no, our private tent sites can only accommodate up to four guests. If you have more than four people in your group, we recommend reserving multiple adjacent campsites or a few communal camping spots for those additional guests.

What should I bring?

Other than standard camping gear, you might want to bring some accessory cord for securing your tent on our platforms. If you are going to use a hammock or tarp to cover tents, padding for your cord around trees is required. Firewood is provided.

Can I have a fire in my campsite?

No. With the amount of dried leaves and lack of permanent fire rings in each campsite, it is simply too risky to allow individual fires. We have two communal fire rings that anyone is welcome to use to enjoy a campfire. Feel free to walk on up to an existing fire and meet your neighbors!

Can I bring my dog?

Well-behaved dogs are welcome, however we ask that all dogs be on a leash and attended to at all times. If your dog is a nuisance or is left unattended, you may be asked to leave.

When is the NRG campground open?

We are usually open from around the second week of March to around the first of December, although this all depends on weather conditions. During the winter campers are still welcome, but the shower house will be closed, the manager will not be on duty, and payment will be by the honor system, in the pay box at $5 per person, per night.
