Grand Teton Climbers' Ranch

Located just south of Jenny Lake and four miles north of the Park Headquarters in Moose, WY. The Climbers' Ranch offers the most affordable and accessible lodging for climbers and outdoor adventurers visiting Grand Teton National Park. Our cabins are set up as rustic dormitories with mixed amenities. Specifically, this means wooden bunks, so be sure to pack your own sleeping pad and bag. There is a communal library, cook shelter, bathhouse, and bicycles on site.

GTCR FAQs

Is the Climbers' Ranch located inside Grand Teton National Park?

Yes, the Climbers' Ranch is located inside the park, 5 miles north of the Moose entrance station. Remember your National Park Pass or be prepared to pay a daily fee.

How much does it cost to stay at the Climbers' Ranch?

We are back to our original operating plan! There will be no private cabins for the 2023 season.
Each bunk bed will cost $25 for AAC members and $35 for non-AAC members. Please keep that Teton County tax will be added to the total.

What if I don’t have a climbing partner?

Don’t let that climbing partner who “doesn’t like hiking” deter you! Climbers’ Ranch staff can add your information to the Partner Finder Board. Call or email us ahead of time with your visiting dates, objectives, and contact information. We will try to get your connected!

How can I cancel my reservation?

Please email the Ranch at gtcr@americanalpineclub.org stating you want to cancel your reservation.  Please be sure to include your confirmation ID in the email.

What is the cancellation policy?

100%  refund if notice is received more than 30 days in advance of arrival date. 50% refund if cancellation notice is received between 7 and 30 days of arrival date. No refund if cancellation notice is received within 7 days of arrival date. 

Is smoking permitted on the property?

No. Smoking is prohibited in all indoor and outdoor spaces at the Climbers' Ranch. If you need to smoke you must walk down the entrance road away from the Ranch and properly dispose of any waste associated with smoking.

What kind of precautions should I take with regard to bears?

Because we have a significant bear population, food storage is permitted inside vehicle trunks or inside the steel bear boxes near the Cookshelter. For food storage within guest cabins, the Climbers’ Ranch provides courtesy use of coolers for cold food storage and other plastic containers for dry food storage. Uncontained food items within guest cabins are NOT permitted. Cooking inside guest cabins and in the parking lot is NOT permitted. All cooking must be done under the cookshelter.

Is the GTCR only open to American Alpine Club members?

No, the Climbers' Ranch is open to everyone!  AAC members do receive a discounted price.  Depending on your length of stay, becoming a member can quickly pay for itself.

Are pets permitted at the Ranch?

Sorry, no pets are allowed at the Climbers' Ranch or in most areas of the National Park. Service animals are permitted, please contact the Ranch Manager beforehand to make arrangements if you have a dog that is individually trained to perform tasks to assist with a disability.

What are the "Rustic Bunkhouse Accommodations" like?

The Climbers' Ranch offers primitive, co-ed dormitory-style lodging in a communal setting.  Guests are housed in open, one-room cabins with other guests, sleeping on wooden bunks wide enough to accommodate one sleeping bag and gear or two-sleeping bags snugly. The cabins do not have either heat or air-conditioning.

Guests must provide their own sleeping pad, pillow, and bedding (sleeping bag).

All guests share a men's and women's bathhouse offering showers, sinks, and toilets.  A communal cook shelter with electricity is provided where guests can set up their cooking stoves and enjoy the fellowship of the climbing community.

Can I rent a cabin?

We provide rustic dormitory-style lodging and cannot guarantee private lodging.

When are quiet hours?

Quiet hours are between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. around the cook shelter and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. in the cabins. Please be courteous to others.

How many other climbers will be in the cabin with me?

Our cabins vary in size from 4 to 6 to 8 bunks.  It is not possible to request a particular cabin or cabin size. Bunks are filled as they become available.

What about children?

The Climbers' Ranch is open to everyone!  Because cabins are one room and shared space, climbers may be leaving for climbs in the middle of the night and young children or their parents may have difficulty sleeping. Young adults and children are welcome and encouraged to experience the rustic accommodations of the Climbers' Ranch. Please be courteous to everyone and share your plans with your bunk mates.

What if I share a bunk with my spouse or child?

The Climbers' Ranch charges very low rates and the rates are applied per person for adults and children regardless of bunk sharing.  Guests are more than welcome to share bunks.

Can I camp in my vehicle or tent and use the facilities?

No. Our contract with the National Park Service prohibits vehicle or tent camping on this property.  There are several excellent campgrounds nearby. Climbers’ Ranch staff check the grounds each night to ensure this rule is being followed.

No vehicles over 22’ or trailers are permitted onsite.

Are showers available for people who are not staying at the Climbers' Ranch?

Yes. Showers are $6 if you are not staying at the Ranch. We also offer a laundry machine and soap for the same price.

Is there a guest kitchen?

No. Guests must cook outside and bring their own cookstoves for use at the cook shelter. However, the Climbers' Ranch has a few communal items: electric hot plates, coffee makers, kettles, tongs, a few pans, a gas grill, and coolers and plastic tubs for dry food storage. The Ranch also sells ice for keeping food items cool. Please call if you have specific questions about provided supplies. 

Is internet access available?

No, there is no public internet available at the Climbers' Ranch. You may find internet connection at the National Park Visitor Centers or near Dornan’s in Moose, WY. We have, however, boosted cell phone signals, so guests may use their personal cell phones and data plans to access the internet. However, this is very dependent on the time of day. It is, in all honesty, mostly off-grid.

What’s the deal with outlets? Are there lights?

All cabins and the cook shelter have outlets and lighting, and so does the cook shelter. Please remember that cooking is only permitted at the cook shelter.

Do I need my AAC member card to verify membership once I arrive at the Climbers' Ranch?

Ideally, yes, but staff can verify your active membership by checking the AAC member database if needed.

Does the Climbers' Ranch provide an airport shuttle?

No.  Please plan accordingly.  Taxis are the most reliable option. You may be able to secure a lyft or uber but they may not want to take you into the National Park due to the lack of cell service and distance. Please keep this in mind. 

Do I need a National Parks Pass? 

Yes. Please bring your annual park pass or be prepared to purchase a 7-day pass at the entrance booth in Moose. A private vehicle is $35, a motorcycle is $30, and a hiker or bicyclist is $20. An annual pass is $80 and can be purchased online or at the entrance. There is free access for US military veterans and Gold Star Family members. Plus a $20 annual senior pass or $80 Lifetime Senior Pass. Help support our national parks!

Where can I rent gear if I don’t want to pack it?

There are several local vendors in Jackson that provide backcountry essentials to rent. Remember to make these reservations in advance! You will need to arrange travel into town to pick up supplies. Though we offer free bikes if you want to bike to Dornans and utilize the closest options.
